How To Fix A Divot With A Tee

I was playing with a guy yesterdaywho said you do NOT replace divots on the tee. The other guy was playing a different hole and strayed onto ours. The guy could not give me a reason. Suppose it is similar to hitting an iron on a par 3.

Can anyone verify that this is correct please and is there a rule?

There is no "rule" but the thinking is that loose divots can provide for an unstable stance so should just be filled. That's fine if your course is properly maintained with seed boxes on the par 3's etc but if not I don't see an issue with replacing a large rat of a divot so long as the ground is soft and it will definitely "take".

As above, a handful of sand/deed mix is grand. I never replace teebox divots as I know personally I would rather know what I was stood on.

This and the fact that i use them as an alignement aid too.....If there were no divots then it'd be a little harder to get alignement right.

NEVER replace divots on a tee box!

The reason is that if you replace your divot well, i.e the grass is seamless and doesn't look like a divot (if that makes sense), someone may well place their tee in your divot. Then, when they strike the ball, it'll go nowhere as the divot will come away from the ground giving the player no 'ground purchase'.

If you take a divot then use some of the earth/seed mix provided.
